any local electronic repair places?

Postby iceberg65 » Sun Dec 13, 2009 9:28 pm

hey;
I was just wondering if anybody knows of any shops in the hat here that can repair some car audio stuff (amplifier)
I just picked up an amp that would be well worth fixing; nothing looks visually burnt out; it just starts in protect mode. If there is nobody the manufacturer offers a flat rate repair for around $250

I also have an amp laying around that does the same thing. Let me know what you find out! 8-)

im sure any computer repair type place can do that, if its just a connection or something that needs to be soldered on the board they could do it, try visions or futureshop.

I'd call up Al's Audio over in the light industrial area. That guys practically a wizard and can fix it.

I will ask about it next time I see the girlfriends sister's fiancee; he owns al's audio. Didn't realize they repaired that stuff. I replied to a kijiji add as well with no response yet. seems like there are ppl to fix home audio amplifiers but when I say its for a car they don't want to look at it.

guess I can mention what amp it is too.
It's a phoenix gold xenon 1200.1 with the special edition onyx cover. the amp in my car now is the 600.1 it's birth sheet was over 840w rms.

I'll keep the lethbridge place in mind if I cant find anything.
I dont like the idea of visions of futureshop working on it; they send everything away for repair. some computer shops might be a good idea to ask at tho

I run the bay at FutureShop, and while I feel I could repair it, we don't do it for the sake of liability. I am not sure if Al's would repair car audio, but I know Faith electronics does.

dwvw,
would you be willing to open up the amp and take a look at it?
I have been in contact with a guy on kijiji but he seems pretty busy; and I would like to have someone at least look and see if they can see what might have blown. If nothing turns up locally in the next couple months (im not in a rush as the car is stored in the winter) I will take a trip to lethbridge

I'd be happy to look at it, but rereading your post it seems nothing is visibly wrong with it. I don't have the equipment to diagnose some of the parts in the amp, I can check for continuity and resistance, but don't have oscilloscopes or anything to really delve into it. Usually it is something easy such as a burnt diode, that stuff I can fix.
